10.08.09Cup podium for Mackenzie at Brands Hatch
PBRA-supported Taylor Mackenzie secured an ACU Cup podium at Brand Hatch this weekend on his return to the domestic scene.
The young Scot is currently enjoying his first full season in international racing with the Red Bull Rookies series, which runs parallel to MotoGP. As a result, his British 125GP Championship aspirations have taken a back seat. Yet despite a lack of competitive action in the UK, Mackenzie arrived at Brands Hatch for the latest instalment of the 125GP Championship full of confidence after his best ever Red Bull Rookies finish at Donington Park at the end of July.
This confidence ensured that Mackenzie quickly got to grips with his MMCG Motorpoint Honda to qualify 15th for the race. Mackenzie followed this up with a gutsy performance when the action got under way on race day. The 16-year-old crossed the line in 12th position less than 0.05 seconds away from a top ten spot. Mackenzie was also the third-placed ACU Cup competitor in the race a result that provided the youngster with his fourth podium in five outings.
Mackenzie currently sits third in the ACU Cup standings and 14th in the British 125GP Championship table, with just four rounds to go, despite missing three races due to his international commitments.
Mackenzie is next in action in Brno on 15 August during the final Red Bull Rookies weekend of the season.
